Over the past two months, promoters and arts festivals from Hobart to Perth have locked in dates, revealed first acts and opened ticket sales for a season that runs from the week after Christmas to mid-March. Some lineups are complete, others are still drip-feeding names, and one of the biggest, Laneway, is about to show its hand. Here is what has been confirmed so far, in date order. ## Late December and New Year ### Taste of Summer, Hobart Hobart's waterfront food and drink festival returns from 27 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 at PW1, nipaluna/Hobart. Running since 1988, it is a week-long celebration of Tasmanian produce, wine, music and culture, presented by PinPoint Group with support from Events Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government. Tickets are sold online through the festival's official ticketing portal. ### Beyond the Valley, Barunah Plains (Victoria) Untitled Group's New Year festival runs from 28 December 2026 to 1 January 2027 at Barunah Plains, on Wadawurrung and Eastern Maar Country. The Black Eyed Peas (an Australian exclusive) and John Summit headline a bill of more than 100 acts that also includes Vince Staples, Skepta, Armand Van Helden, Ocean Alley, The Veronicas and The Jungle Giants, plus a Lounge Room with comedy and live performances. Four-day, three-day, two-day, NYE-only and single-day passes went on general sale on 7 August. "Festivals matter more than ever. They give people a place to belong, and a place to fall in love with music," said Nicholas Greco, co-founder and managing partner of Untitled Group. ### Field Day, Sydney Sydney's New Year's Day dance festival is back at The Domain on Friday 1 January 2027, led by Major Lazer (returning to Australia for the first time in 11 years, according to Rolling Stone Australia) and Sub Focus, with Andy C, Boys Noize, Elderbrook and Hannah Laing among more than 30 acts. Organiser Fuzzy is marking its 30th anniversary. The event is strictly 18+. - **Tickets:** general admission from A$189.90 to A$239.90 depending on release, VIP A$299.90, plus fees - **Affordability tickets:** A$99.90 for 18 to 25 year olds, allocated by ballot ## January and February ### Sydney Festival Sydney Festival will run from 7 to 25 January 2027\. The program has not yet been released; the festival's website describes 2027 as "now brewing", so expect the full line-up closer to the end of the year. ### Perth Festival Perth Festival revealed its first 2027 events on 8 September, and artistic director Anna Reece is promising a big one: "Clear your diaries. We're not planning a quiet summer." Confirmed so far: - **ROHTKO**, a theatre work by Polish director Łukasz Twarkowski inspired by a Mark Rothko forgery scandal, at His Majesty's Theatre, 5 to 13 February 2027 - **Foy Vance and The Paper Kites** at East Perth Power Station, Sunday 7 February 2027 - **Operation:Orfeo**, a visual opera by Denmark's Hotel Pro Forma, at His Majesty's Theatre, 25 to 27 February 2027 - **The Avalanches** close the festival at East Perth Power Station on Sunday 28 February 2027, playing their new album *No Bad Memories* alongside career highlights The full Perth Festival program will be released on 29 October 2026. ### Laneway Festival Laneway has confirmed a leaner 2027 run, with Adelaide and Perth dropped from the schedule. The Australian dates are: - **Friday 12 February 2027:** Centennial Park, Sydney - **Saturday 13 February 2027:** Brisbane Showgrounds, Brisbane - **Friday 19 February 2027:** Flemington Park, Melbourne An Auckland date follows on 21 February. The festival says the full line-up drops in late September, and Rolling Stone Australia reports that street stencils point to a reveal on 30 September. Names on a leaked poster have circulated online but are unconfirmed, and ticket details are yet to be announced. ### Sydney Summertime A new outdoor concert series at Centennial Park, presented by Black Peach with Secret Sounds and Live Nation and supported by Destination NSW, launches on Saturday 20 February 2027 with The Strokes, Beck, Courtney Barnett and Promiseland. It is a 16+ event and tickets include return public transport. General sale opens at 1pm AEST on Tuesday 29 September via Moshtix. ## Late summer: Adelaide's festival season ### Adelaide Fringe Adelaide Fringe, which calls itself the biggest arts festival in Australia, runs for 31 days and nights from 19 February to 21 March 2027\. Artist and venue registrations are open, and a handful of early events are already on sale through FringeTix, including Ernie Dingo's *Chasing Horizons*. ### WOMADelaide WOMADelaide celebrates its 35th edition from 5 to 8 March 2027 in Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla. The first three acts are Leon Bridges, Madness (playing Sunday 7 March, their first Adelaide show since the 1980s) and Tinariwen, with the full line-up due in December. - **First release tickets:** one-day passes from A$209, four-day passes A$469 for adults - **Kids:** ages 3 to 12 free with an adult ticket (up to two per adult) - **Payment plans:** available until 30 November 2026 ## Planning tips Several of these events cluster around the same weeks. Sydney has three big outdoor weekends in February alone: Laneway on 12 February, Sydney Summertime on 20 February, and Calvin Harris's sold-out run at The Domain from 20 to 24 February. Brisbane gets Laneway and The Strokes on the same day, 13 February, so choose carefully. If you are heading to Adelaide, the overlap between the Fringe and WOMADelaide in early March makes it the most efficient festival trip of the season.
