The Chanel Resort 2027 Sydney show is the sort of thing Australian fashion has waited a long time to say out loud. On 5th Nov 26, one of the most famous houses in the world is staging a full runway show here, with Matthieu Blazy's first cruise collection for Chanel as the main event. It is billed as the first show of its kind by a French luxury house in the country, and it is hard not to enjoy that a little.

## Resort, cruise, same thing

If the word "Resort" sounds like a holiday brochure, you are not far off. Resort, also called cruise, is the collection fashion houses make between the big seasonal shows that we are all used to. It started life as clothes for wealthy customers heading somewhere warm in winter, and it has grown into one of the most important lines in a luxury calendar. The shows are often held far from Paris, in places chosen to suit the mood of the clothes.

This one has already had its first outing. [Chanel's Cruise 2026/27 collection](https://www.chanel.com/au/fashion/collection/cruise-2026-27/?ref=blankidentity.com.au) was shown in Biarritz on 28th Apr 26, on the Basque coast where Gabrielle Chanel opened her first couture house outside Paris in 1915\. Sydney gets the encore.

## Why Sydney makes sense

The Biarritz story and it starts to read like it was designed for Sydney. Surf, rock pools, salt in your hair and a creative scene that cares about how it looks. Chanel's own description of the collection is all about movement and an 'elsewhere', and the harbour city fits that brief better than most.

There is business behind the romance too. Chanel opened its biggest Australian boutique on Market Street in 2025, a two-storey Peter Marino design, and Bruno Pavlovsky, the house's President of Fashion, has said it is time for Chanel to speed up its growth here. A runway show is a pretty big way to say so.

The house also has plenty of Australian faces in its orbit. Nicole Kidman has been with Chanel for more than twenty years, Margot Robbie fronted the Chanel 25 bag campaign earlier in 2026, and Jacob Elordi is the face of the house's men's fragrance. It shows how much local talent already wears the Chanel brand.

## The week itself

The runway is on 5th Nov 26\. The night before, on 4th Nov 26, Chanel hosted a private guest evening at Shelly Beach in Manly, which is exactly the sort of backdrop you would pick for a collection about the sea. It was a private event, so that one was for guests rather than passers-by.

The teaser landed on 4th Nov 26 and it is pure shoreline. Australian models Latahlia Hickling, Julia Nobis and Josephen Akuei walk along the water's edge with waves rolling in behind them. Akuei wears the standout: a shimmering, amphibious look covered in orange and gold sequins, with orange plumage over her eyelids. It is a long way from a quiet little black dress, and that is the point.

## What you can expect to see

Blazy's starting point is the little black dress, which he treats as both a signature and a manifesto. The first look out in Biarritz is just that: a sleeveless black dress with white stitching radiating across the body. It is simple, but the detail makes it feel new.

From there it gets looser, sunnier and bolder. Chanel talks about silk foulard ensembles that flutter, raffia skirts that rustle ([check out our raffia bag article](https://www.blankidentity.com.au/the-edit-the-woven-raffia-tote-for-an-australian-summer/)) and washed cotton canvas suiting, and you can see the beach theme in all of it. There are bold stripes in red, cream and green, sleeveless striped dresses paired with bold bright accessories, and printed pieces that look like they have been through a salty day.

Now that more has been revealed, the ocean theme goes well past stripes. This is shaping up as Blazy's most playful collection yet, with jackets in marine motifs, logo swim caps, dresses in a coral-like netting, rubber wading boots, earrings shaped like algae and sea creatures, and shoes that are barely more than heel caps. It is Chanel with its feet in the water, quite literally.

The set matters too. The show space puts a pale, sandy floor beneath tall windows that open onto the sea, with a gilt-framed painting on the wall. It feels like a grand salon that has wandered down to the beach, and the clothes look comfortable in it.
