The Fitbit Edge is the screened Fitbit tracker Google has been teasing for months, and it has now leaked in enough detail to judge whether it is worth the wait. Google hasn't announced the details, so everything below is gathered from a variety of sources rather than confirmed.

## What the leak shows

Product images show a slim band with a small oval display, a button on each side and a sensor array on the back that looks like the one on the screenless [Fitbit Air](https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/devices/fitbit/fitbit-air/?ref=blankidentity.com.au). Reported features as you would expect include built-in GPS, an altimeter for tracking elevation, automatic workout detection, phone notifications and a short list of apps, including Google Maps, YouTube Music and Find My Phone.

Battery life is reported at up to seven days, and the Edge is said to work with both Android and iPhone. That makes it a different proposition from the Wear OS Pixel Watch 5, which is Android only. It is also said to come in colours borrowed from the Pixel 11 range, though the leaks disagree on exactly which.

## Where it sits in Google's lineup

Google's range has a gap. The Fitbit Air is a screenless band, AU$199 at launch, with no GPS. The [Pixel Watch 5](https://store.google.com/au/config/pixel%5Fwatch%5F5?hl=en-GB&ref=blankidentity.com.au) is a full smartwatch from $649 for the 41mm size and $699 for the 45mm. The Edge looks like a return to the old Fitbit Charge idea: a tracker you glance at, not a watch you manage. Google hasn't updated that line since 2023, and it said last year that new Fitbit hardware was coming in 2026.

There is some paperwork behind the rumour. A Google device with a screen, Bluetooth and GPS, but no Wi-Fi or cellular, appeared in a regulatory filing in September, which fits the leaked feature list, although Google hasn't confirmed the link. A [second leak](https://9to5google.com/2026/10/06/google-fitbit-edge-price-specs-features/?ref=blankidentity.com.au) adds Gemini support, some Google Play integration and a user-replaceable battery. Treat those extras with caution until Google says otherwise.

## Price and Australian availability

Price is the biggest unknown for Australians. The second leak reports €179 in Europe and £159 in the UK, against €99 and £85 for the Fitbit Air, which points to roughly US$180 in the US. A straight conversion of US$180 is about AU$257 (approx., at recent exchange rates). That is not an Australian price. Google charged AU$199 for the Fitbit Air against US$99.99 in the US, so a local price above the straight conversion would not be a surprise. No Australian price or release date has been reported. One report expects a launch in October.

## Should you wait?

Wait if you want a screen and GPS without paying for a full smartwatch, you already use the Google Health app, or you were eyeing a Fitbit Air and wished it had a display. If the October window holds, waiting costs you a few weeks.

Buy now if you train seriously. The Edge is reported to run a short list of apps and use sensors like the Air's, so it looks like an everyday tracker rather than a training tool. For that job, our pieces on the [Garmin fenix 9](https://www.blankidentity.com.au/garmin-fenix-9-fenix-9-pro/), the [Coros Pace 4 Pro](https://www.blankidentity.com.au/coros-pace-4-pro/) and the [Suunto Run 2](https://www.blankidentity.com.au/suunto-run-2/) are better places to start.

Plenty is still unknown: the Australian price, the release date, whether it stores music offline, how accurate its GPS is, and whether the best features sit behind a paid Google Health Premium plan, as they do on the Air. We'll update this piece if Google confirms the Edge.

**At a glance:**

- **Fitbit Edge (reported):** screen, GPS, altimeter, up to seven days of battery, Android and iPhone
- **Price (reported):** €179 and £159, roughly US$180, about AU$257 converted (approx.), no Australian price
- **Fitbit Air:** screenless, no GPS, AU$199
- **Pixel Watch 5:** full smartwatch, from $649 (41mm) and $699 (45mm)
- **Status:** not announced by Google

**Verdict:** Wait a few weeks if a screen and GPS without smartwatch bulk is what you want. Buy a Garmin, Coros or Suunto now if you train seriously.
