This summer sunglasses buying guide for men in 2026 has one job: get you from squinting at a shelf (or a screen) to owning a pair you will actually reach for. Eleven pairs, a wide spread of prices, a little face-shape fun, and the short version of what the light is doing to your eyes.

It is part two of a pair. If you are shopping for someone else, or yourself in a different mood, the [women's summer sunglasses guide](https://www.blankidentity.com.au/women-summer-sunglasses-guide-2026/) is the other half. And if you only want one answer, we already made a call in [what we would buy if we could only have one pair for an Australian summer](https://www.blankidentity.com.au/what-id-buy-one-pair-of-sunglasses-australian-summer/).

## What is actually in this summer

Fashion is leaning sporty. Wraparound and shield shapes, the kind that look like they were designed for a cycling descent, have moved from the sports shop to the style pages, often with tinted lenses in violet, orange, yellow or blue. Big aviators are back too, and so are thin wire frames. Alongside all that, the classics are quietly holding their ground: tortoiseshell, browlines and soft rounds.

The useful part is that you do not have to pick a lane. A sporty wrap and a tortoiseshell round sit at opposite ends of the shelf, and both are in fashion at the same time.

## Your face, a very unscientific guide

Treat these as suggestions from a mate, not laws.

- **Round face:** angles help. Squares and rectangles add some edge.
- **Square jaw:** soft rounds and ovals take the sharpness down a notch.
- **Oval face:** you got the lucky draw. Wear whatever makes you grin.
- **Long face:** go bigger and deeper, or wrap the lens around the sides to shorten the look.
- **Ray-Ban Wayfarer RB2240**: $318.60, black and havana acetate, green polarised glass, category 3.
- **Narrow chin:** lighter frames and aviators keep things balanced.

The real test is simple. Put them on, and if the frame sits level with your brows and does not touch your cheeks when you smile, you are in business.

## Colour: frames, lenses and the rest of you

Black goes with everything, which is why it is everywhere. Tortoiseshell warms things up and flatters most hair colours. Gold metal leans warm, silver leans cool, so match it to your watch and you look organised without trying.

Lens colour is the fun bit. Grey keeps colours true, brown and amber lift contrast, and green sits happily in between. A mirror coating bounces light off the surface and adds a bit of attitude. Coloured tints such as violet or blue are mostly about the look, so treat them as an accessory, not a workhorse.

## The light, in two minutes

Sunglasses sold in Australia have to meet a mandatory standard, which means they filter ultraviolet light and carry a label with a lens category from 0 to 4\. Categories 2 and 3 are proper sunglasses. Categories 0 and 1 are classed as fashion spectacles, with little or limited UV protection. Category 4 is very dark and not for driving. Every pair below is listed as category 3, so check that label on whatever you buy.

Polarised is a different thing again. A polarised lens cuts glare bouncing off water, bitumen and car bonnets, which is a gift on the boat or on a long drive. A plain tint only darkens the view. Some polarised lenses can make certain phone and dashboard screens look dim, so have a squint at yours before you commit.

## The eleven pairs

You have seen the ads: a square-jawed movie star on a terrace somewhere improbable, wearing sunglasses that your feed insists have been waiting for you personally. We cannot promise the jawline or the terrace. We can promise eleven pairs with real prices, listed from the friendliest to the fanciest.

### 1\. Polaroid PLD 4190/S

It is the pair for the glovebox, the beach bag or the friend who loses sunglasses weekly.

- **Polaroid PLD 6185/S:** $80.75, round tortoiseshell, green polarised, category 3.
- **Quay Flip Side:** $130.15, square black, smoke polarised, category 3.
- **Carrera C Sport 11/S:** $211.50, shield, mauve lenses, category 3.
- **Ray-Ban Clubmaster Classic RB3016:** $221.40, havana browline, brown glass, category 3.
- **Oakley Sutro Lite:** $253.80, wraparound, Prizm Road Jade, category 3.
- **Oakley Frogskins:** $258.30, matte black, Prizm Black polarised, category 3.
- **Maui Jim Pailolo:** $269, rectangular wrap, silver mirror polarised, category 3.
- **Ray-Ban Aviator Max:** $303.30, black metal aviator, polarised glass, category 3.
- **Persol PO3336S:** $425.70, black acetate, blue gradient polarised glass, category 3.

**Verdict:** if your budget is tight, the two Polaroids do a lot for very little. If you want the classic that never dates, the Ray-Ban Wayfarer is the one. For the water, the Maui Jim Pailolo is the sensible choice. For a pair with real personality, the Quay Flip Side and the Carrera are the fun ones, and the Persol is the grown-up reward.
