Nikon's latest full-frame camera makes one bold choice: there is no viewfinder. The Z5IIC takes much of what makes the Z5II a strong entry-level camera, removes the eyepiece and a few other extras, and wraps it in a squarer, rangefinder-inspired body aimed squarely at people stepping up from a smartphone.

## What you get

- 24.5MP full-frame sensor with 5-axis in-body stabilisation rated to 7.5 stops
- a 3.2-inch fully articulating touchscreen, ideal for vlogging and low angles
- deep-learning autofocus that recognises 10 subject types, now including a dedicated fish and aquatic life mode
- 4K video at up to 60fps, Full HD at 120fps, and 10-bit H.265, N-Log and N-RAW for more serious video work
- Nikon Imaging Recipes and a customisable grain effect for film-like looks straight out of camera
- 15 scene modes, a Product Review Mode for creators, and a magnesium alloy body with dust and drip resistance

## The trade-offs

Beyond the viewfinder, the Z5IIC also loses the Z5II's second card slot and higher-resolution rear screen. Early reviews note it is not as light as its compact looks suggest, at around 620g, and that the screen can be hard to see in bright sun, which matters more when it is your only way to frame a shot. If you like holding a camera to your eye, the regular Z5II is still the better buy.

## Who it's for

For someone who has only ever shot on a phone, composing on a screen feels natural, and the Z5IIC delivers genuine full-frame image quality, strong autofocus and capable video at a sharper price than Nikon's other full-frame bodies.
