Perth Festival 2027 has dropped its program, and the headline is simple: February in Perth just got a lot more interesting. Twenty-four days, an old power station on the river turned into a music playground, and a lineup that jumps from sampling heroes to Icelandic piano drama to a Dolly Parton tribute. If you have ever wanted an excuse to fly west, this is a decent one.

The festival is the 74th edition and runs from 5th Feb 27 to 28th Feb 27\. General sales opened on 2nd Nov 26, and the big shows tend to go fast.

## The Avalanches close the festival

Saving the best for last is a smart move. [The Avalanches](https://www.perthfestival.com.au/program/season-2027/the-avalanches?ref=blankidentity.com.au) play the Main Stage at East Perth Power Station across the final weekend, on 27th Feb 27 and 28th Feb 27, bringing their new show *No Bad Memories*. They are the band behind *Since I Left You*, the 2000 debut that made a whole generation fall for songs stitched together from other songs. Expect a warm, nostalgic, slightly misty-eyed dance party, which is exactly how a festival should sign off.

## Olafur Arnalds, up close and a bit overwhelming

The Icelandic composer [Olafur Arnalds](https://www.perthfestival.com.au/program/season-2027/olafur-arnalds?ref=blankidentity.com.au) brings *Falling Apart Together* to the Power Station on 25th Feb 27 and 26th Feb 27\. It is billed as his most ambitious live project yet, built around the idea of closing the distance between artist and audience. His music has soundtracked a lot of quiet evenings and a lot of television, so seeing it staged at this scale should be something. Worth knowing: the show uses haze, strobe and flashing lights.

## DJ Shadow takes Endtroducing back to the source

On 19th Feb 27, [DJ Shadow](https://www.perthfestival.com.au/program/season-2027/dj-shadow-pres-30-years-of-endtroducing?ref=blankidentity.com.au) marks 30 years of *Endtroducing*, the record that taught plenty of people that a sampler could be an instrument. It is a one-night-only affair, and the kind of anniversary show where half the room will quietly know every crackle.

## Dolly, RONA, Methyl Ethel and a radio station turning 50

The Power Station is the festival hub again, and the music lineup there goes well beyond the big names. There is a Dolly Parton tribute called *We Will Always Love Her*, which is the sort of thing that sounds like a lovely idea and turns into a singalong. RONA, the Kaytetye producer and DJ from Alice Springs, is in the lineup, and Perth's own Methyl Ethel take the Main Stage. RTRFM turns 50, and celebrates with *A Live WA Mixtape*: three supergroups led by Maatakitj, Abbe May and Paul Francis Wood, with guests including Nicholas Allbrook and Rachel Dease. Entry to the Power Station site itself is free, with the Main Stage shows ticketed, and a free sunset music program called Casa Musica runs there too.

## Late nights at The Embassy, plus ballet in a quarry

For something more intimate, The Embassy returns to Perth Town Hall for three weeks of cabaret-style tables and jazz, blues and soul. Stella Donnelly and Ursula Yovich, who brings the music of Nina Simone to life, are both on the bill. Elsewhere, West Australian Ballet opens its 75th anniversary year with *Ballet at the Quarry: Kira*, and the Lotterywest Films season at UWA Somerville starts on 23rd Nov 26\. If you are hunting for a free thing to do between shows, Kite Choir on the South Perth Foreshore costs nothing.
