Rip Curl and Abrand Jeans have teamed up again. The surf label and the denim brand have released their second collaborative collection, a men's and women's range that mines Rip Curl's 1980s archive and runs it through Abrand's baggy, low-slung Y2K denim fits. It is on sale now in Australia, with a rollout across Europe and the US.

## What is in the collection

The range builds on the pair's first drop in 2025 and goes deeper into the surf brand's history, using original Rip Curl wetsuit details and graphics as its starting point. The result pairs surf references with relaxed silhouettes and a spread of washes.

For men, the collection includes denim jackets, baggy jeans, tees, board shorts, crew tops and hoodies. The women's side adds bomber jackets, skirts and shorts. Abrand describes the collaboration on its own site under the banner "Hot Locals".

## What the designers said

Rip Curl head of men's design Casey Egan said: "It's epic to see Abrand Jeans' Co-Founder & Designer Andy Paltos and his crew come through our archives and put their denim twist on some iconic Rip Curl pieces."

Abrand Jeans men's designer and developer Tasha Smith said: "I wanted to lean into the nostalgia from the first drop, by diving deeper into OG Rip Curl wetsuit details and graphics." Smith also told Ragtrader: "I grew up in New Zealand with surf culture everywhere, in every direction."

The partnership was brokered by Australian brand agency Asembl, and according to Ragtrader, it was the success of the first collection that prompted this second round. Managing director Justin Watson said: "Familiar and nostalgic yet modern, this totally wearable trend-led denim range for the next generation speaks right to the heart of the adventure and free-spirited nature of both Rip Curl and Abrand Jeans."

## Why it works

Eighties surfwear and loose, low-rise denim are both firmly back in rotation, and Asembl's Justin Watson has described both brands as deeply rooted in Australian culture. Keeping the price ceiling below A$170 also puts it well within reach of the younger shoppers both labels are chasing, and the stockist list, which includes General Pants and Surf Dive 'n Ski, reflects that.
