The Strokes are coming back to Australia for their own headline shows, a rarity for a band that has mostly visited as a festival act for the past two decades. The New York group announced the *Reality Awaits* tour on 24 September 2026, with four dates across Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in February 2027\. The Sydney date will also open Sydney Summertime, a new outdoor concert series in Centennial Park.

## The dates

- **Saturday 13 February 2027:** Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane
- **Tuesday 16 February 2027:** Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
- **Wednesday 17 February 2027:** Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne
- **Saturday 20 February 2027:** Centennial Park, Sydney (Sydney Summertime)

Courtney Barnett and Promiseland, the project of Johann Rashid on Julian Casablancas' Cult Records label, support on every date. Beck joins the bill for the Sydney show only. Barnett returns with a new album, *Creature of Habit*.

## A new Sydney summer series

Sydney Summertime is an inaugural outdoor concert series at Centennial Park, presented by Black Peach with Secret Sounds and Live Nation and supported by Destination NSW. The Strokes are its first headliner, and the 20 February show is the band's only Sydney date and only outdoor performance of the tour. The event is for ages 16 and over, ticket holders get return public transport included, and the site will have food from Sydney restaurant pop-ups, food trucks and local producers, plus an elevated viewing platform for wheelchair users.

"They're such an iconic live band and the perfect way to kick things off," said Sydney Summertime directors Jessica Ducrou and Elise Huntley.

## Why it matters

According to Double J, The Strokes first played Australia in 2001 supporting You Am I, returned for the Big Day Out in 2004, and have since appeared mostly on festival bills, including Splendour in the Grass in 2010, 2016 and 2022 and Adelaide's Harvest Rock in 2025\. The new tour supports *Reality Awaits*, the band's seventh studio album, produced by Rick Rubin and featuring the singles "Going Shopping" and "Falling Out of Love".
