Say the words WORTH IT Dyson Airwrap in a group chat and watch it split in two. One camp swears it handed them their mornings back. The other camp can't get past the price tag and would rather put the money towards a holiday. Both are a little bit right, which is why this one needs a proper answer.

Ours is a yes. The Airwrap earns its place if you style your hair most days, because it dries and shapes at the same time, so the usual blow-dry, then curl, then straighten routine collapses into a single tool. There is a twist, though, and it could save you a decent chunk of money.

## What it actually replaces

Think about your current routine. A hair dryer, a curling wand, a flat iron, maybe a round brush if you are feeling brave. The [Dyson Airwrap Co-anda2x](https://www.dyson.com.au/airwrap-co-anda2x-straight-wavy-492472-01-ceramic-pink?ref=blankidentity.com.au) aims to stand in for all of them. It uses fast-moving air to wrap hair around a barrel while it dries, so you are not cooking your hair on a hot plate. Dyson's own page is rated 4.8 out of 5 by owners, and the praise keeps coming back to the same thing: less time standing at the mirror.

That is the real pitch. It is not magic, and it will not turn flat hair into a salon shoot on day one. But if you reach for heat tools most mornings, a single device that does the lot starts to feel less like a splurge and more like tidying up the bathroom drawer.

## The new set versus the outgoing one

Here is the twist. Dyson has refreshed the Straight+Wavy set with a new line-up of attachments, which means the previous version is now the outgoing one, and the discounts are starting to show. Same styler, same motor, and the same RRP on, but what changes is what is in the box.

The new set trades two attachments for three fresh ones. The old model had the AirSmooth2x finishing tool and a smaller 30mm barrel. The new set brings in the Air straightener 2x, a Conical barrel and a redesigned 40mm barrel. Everything else carries over in updated form, so you still get the brushes and the fast dryer.

So which is the better buy? If the new straightener is the thing you have been waiting for, or you want that tapered barrel for curls that start closer to the root, go for the new set. If you mostly want a dryer-meets-curler and a fuss-free finish, the outgoing set does that brilliantly and is currently sitting well under the new one at some retailers.

## Every attachment, one by one

**Air straightener 2x (new set).** This attachment is the headliner. It looks like a straitening iron with two plates that clamp a section of hair while fast-moving air does the work, so hair goes from wet to straight in as little as one pass. It is the first attachment of its kind for an Airwrap, and it is the main reason to pick the new set.

**Conical Co-anda2x barrel (new set).** It tapers towards the tip, so you can get closer to the roots and end up with curls that are tighter at the top and looser at the ends. That tends to look more natural than a uniform ringlet.

**40mm Co-anda2x barrel.** The big, loose-wave barrel. It wraps more hair at once, which makes it quicker on longer lengths and gives soft, bouncy curls rather than tight spirals. The new set has a redesigned version, and the old set has the original.

**30mm barrel (outgoing set).** The smaller barrel for tighter, springier curls. It is essentially repalced by the Conical Co in the new set.

**AirSmooth2x (outgoing set).** A finishing tool for dry hair. It uses air pressure alone to smooth and straighten, so there is no hot plate involved. It does a lovely job at tidying a blow-dry, but it is not the wet-to-dry straightener the new set has.

**Large round volumising brush 2x.** A bigger brush head for that bouncy, blow-dry-from-the-salon finish. Air runs through the base, which helps keep tangles and flyaways in check while you add lift.

**Anti-snag loop brush 2x.** Gentle, looped bristles that detangle without a fight and are kind to the scalp. It is the one you will grab on days when you just want smooth and done.

**Fast dryer 2x.** This turns the Airwrap into a proper hair dryer, so you can take hair from wet to dry or rough-dry it before styling. It is the attachment that lets you retire the old dryer.

## What it costs, and when it drops

Dyson Australia lists the new Straight+Wavy set at an RRP of $999, and its own store tends to hold that price. You can find a discount if you shop around. The outgoing set is currently $790.69 at [PB Tech](https://www.pbtech.com/au/product/HOMDYS598756/Dyson-HS09-Airwrap-Co-anda2x-multi-styler-and-drye?ref=blankidentity.com.au), and a short-lived Dyson offer in July pushed that same set to about $720 with a code. With Black Friday around the corner, expect more of those moments, particularly on the model that is on its way out.

This is where the maths gets fun. Its roughly $200 off for the same styler, you are foregoing the new straightener attachment and a fancier barrel, but we think its a very good trade for 90% of how people with use them.

**At a glance**

**Verdict:** Yes, the Dyson Airwrap is worth it if you style your hair most days, because one tool replaces a drawer of heat gadgets. For the best value, the outgoing set is the sharper buy, while the new set wins if the wet-to-dry Air straightener 2x is the attachment you want.
