Australia in Paris: the designers showing and selling at Paris Fashion Week SS27
Zimmermann and Christopher Esber are on the runway, and 12 more Australian labels are heading to the Australian Fashion Council's first Paris showroom. Here is who is going, when, and why it matters.
Paris Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2027 opens on 28 September 2026, and this season Australia's presence goes well beyond one or two runway shows. Alongside Zimmermann and Christopher Esber on the official calendar, the Australian Fashion Council (AFC) is opening its first trade showroom in the city, with a dozen local labels pitching directly to international buyers. It comes in the same month as a separate AFC export mission to Hong Kong. Here is who is going, when, and why it matters for the local industry.
On the runway: Zimmermann and Christopher Esber
The two Australian names on the official Paris schedule are both labels with established international followings.
Zimmermann
Zimmermann, founded by sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann in Sydney in 1991, shows on Monday 5 October 2026 at 2.30pm Paris time, according to the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), which lists the show as by invitation with a livestream at the same time. It lands on a big day: Daily Front Row notes that Matthieu Blazy's second ready-to-wear collection for Chanel is also scheduled for 5 October.
The brand has been building its Paris profile all year. In September it unveiled its Fall 2026 campaign, titled Trailblazer, on a billboard at 10 rue Royale, between Place de la Concorde and Place de la Madeleine. It was the label's second outdoor campaign in the city after a June debut, and Zimmermann described it as "a significant step in establishing Paris as the brand's second home to Sydney."
Christopher Esber
Christopher Esber is listed by the FHCM with a show by invitation on Tuesday 6 October 2026 at 12.30pm, the final day of the week, when Louis Vuitton closes the schedule. Esber is no newcomer to Paris: he showed his Spring/Summer 2026 collection there last year, and presented his Resort 2027 collection in Paris in June, a 45-look outing.
In the showroom: the Australian Fashion Rooms
The bigger structural story is the AFC's Australian Fashion Rooms, a gallery-style trade showroom running from 30 September to 4 October 2026 at Galerie Poggi, 135 Rue Saint-Martin, in the 4th arrondissement. It is open from 9.30am to 7pm daily, with buyer and industry appointments coordinated by the AFC.
Twelve labels were selected, spanning couture, ready-to-wear, First Nations-led practices, artisanal craft and experimental design:
- Amy Lawrance
- Buai
- Caroline Reznik
- ESSE
- Haluminous
- Ilio Nema
- Maara Collective
- Madre Natura
- Miimi & Jiinda
- NGALI
- Paolo Sebastian
- Romance Was Born
The mix is broad. Paolo Sebastian, for example, is the Adelaide couture house founded by Paul Vasileff in 2007, known for hand-embroidered and beaded gowns that have appeared at the Academy Awards, the Met Gala and Cannes. Several others, including ESSE, Haluminous, Madre Natura and NGALI, were on the Australian Fashion Week 2026 designer roster in Sydney earlier this year.
The selection was guided by an advisory panel that included Aje, Camilla and Marc, David Jones and 10 Magazine. When the programme was first announced in June, the AFC reserved dedicated places for First Nations designers across both of its application pathways.
The showroom is also designed to feel Australian. The food is by chef Sian Redgrave, the coffee comes from Sydney roaster The Little Marionette, and Australia's Ambassador to France, Lynette Wood, is hosting an opening reception.
Why it matters
Showing in Paris has largely been the domain of the biggest Australian brands, which can afford to do it on their own. The Fashion Rooms model spreads that cost and gives smaller and emerging labels access to buyers and media they would struggle to reach from Sydney or Melbourne.
"Australian creativity is distinctive, globally relevant and deserves to be seen on the world stage," said AFC executive chair Marianne Perkovic. When the showroom was first announced, she was also frank about the gap it is designed to fill: "Australian fashion has always had the talent. What has been missing is the infrastructure."
Government money is behind it. The programme is funded through Austrade's Trade Diversification Network, part of its Accessing New Markets Initiative, and by Create NSW, which set aside A$250,000 for NSW designers to take part under its NSW Fashion Sector Strategy 2025 to 2028. Austrade's Jay Meek described the Paris cohort as the Trade Diversification Network in action, combining Austrade's global reach with the AFC's industry expertise to connect designers with international buyers.
At the June announcement, federal Trade Minister Don Farrell put it simply: "We want to see more Australian fashion on the streets and in stores across the globe."
Before Paris: Hong Kong
Paris is the largest outing yet for the AFC's Global Gateways export platform, but it is not the only one this season. In September, ten Australian designers were selected to present at CENTRESTAGE Hong Kong 2026: Gary Bigeni, Buluuy Mirrii, VAN BRUSSEL, Asiyam, Briar Will, MOS the Label, NIAMH GALEA, Permanent Vacation, VICETA WANG and WEST 14TH. Australia's Consul-General in Hong Kong, Gareth Williams, is hosting a designer showcase and reception at the Australian Residence.
The AFC points to a previous Hong Kong participant as proof the model can work. Designer Monika Branagan said: "The opportunity to present at CENTRESTAGE allowed me to make contact with Smile Code, the Japanese agency coordinating the pop-up at Seibu Shibuya."
