Inside P. Johnson's New Paddington Flagship, a House Before It's a Store
The Sydney tailoring brand's 510-square-metre global flagship on Gosbell Street is designed by Tamsin Johnson and houses its full menswear offer under one roof.
P. Johnson started as a small Sydney tailoring business and has grown into one of Australia's most respected menswear names, with showrooms across the world. Its new home in Paddington is the brand's biggest statement yet: a 510-square-metre global flagship on Gosbell Street.
A warehouse turned gallery
The interior is by Tamsin Johnson, the Sydney designer and wife of founder Patrick Johnson, whose work has become a signature of the brand's spaces. Here she has taken inspiration from the idea of a warehouse converted into a gallery, mixing industrial materials such as stainless steel, concrete, mesh and brick-red steel with warmer, more theatrical touches: vermilion corduroy drapes, back-lit mirrors and an ocelot-pattern carpet. It sounds like a lot, and that is the point. It feels more like a very stylish home than a shop.
Everything under one roof
For the first time, the full P. Johnson world is in a single space: the complete ready-to-wear menswear range, from light jackets and crisp shirting to rich silks and leathers in the brand's refined neutrals, alongside its made-to-measure tailoring service and a selection of artisanal goods.
"Gosbell Street is a house before it is a store," said Patrick Johnson. "It is the fullest expression yet of what we've been building: clothes and rooms that let people feel like themselves at every volume, from a Saturday morning to a black-tie dinner."
