Reebok Nano X5 Edge F45 Edition: What Changed

Reebok's famous gym shoe got a tougher upper and a smarter midsole, and now F45 has its own version too. Here's what actually changed under your feet.

The Reebok Nano X5 Edge F45 Edition is built on a shoe you have probably clocked if you spend any time in a gym. The Nano has been the unofficial uniform of the gym floor for years: the shoe you see on the feet of the people doing a heavy lift, then a set of burpees, then somehow looking fine about it.

The Edge is the latest chapter, and the F45 Edition is the version made for one of the biggest names in group training. Same bones, a few tweaks, and a smart new look.

What changed in the Nano X5 Edge

Reebok describes the Nano X5 Edge as a refined take on the classic, and that is a pretty fair summary. It's a flat, stable gym shoe at heart, but a few of the major details of the shoe have been over hauled.

The upper lining is the big one. It uses the most durable version yet of Reebok's FlexWeave material, which is the stuff that lets the shoe bend where your foot bends and stay put where you need it to. Gym shoes live a hard life, so a tougher upper is a very welcome change, especially when the top side of your shoe can cop a beating with thinks like burpee's, sprawls etc.

Underneath, the midsole is dual-density foam. Allowing you to tackle different movements in comfort: a firmer heel so you feel planted under a barbell, and a softer forefoot so box jumps and sprints do not feel like punishment. Then there is the split outsole, which lets the front and back of the shoe move more independently so it flexes naturally rather than slapping the floor.

Around your ankle there is a padded collar that wraps the whole heel, so the shoe feels locked in when the workout turns messy.

So what is different about the F45 Edition?

F45 and Reebok teamed up as global partners in late 2025, and the F45 Edition is the headline shoe of their first collection together. F45 sessions mix strength, cardio and a lot of quick changes between the two, which is exactly what the Nano was built for, so it was a natural fit.

The F45 Edition keeps the Nano X5 Edge platform and adds a few touches of its own: a 3D FlexWeave upper, a high-density padded collar, and an external heel clip that adds a bit more support at the back of the shoe (maybe they got my memo on sliders ruining my shoes). The look is also pure F45, designed to be at home on the studio floor and still make sense with on the way to get coffee afterwards. F45 itself calls it engineered for the training floor but styled for the world.

The colours

Reebok Australia has the standard Edge in a good spread, from the bold white, black and sport red pair to stealthy all-black and a creamy Linen that looks more like a fashion sneaker than a lifting shoe. It is a nice sign of where gym shoes have gone: people want something that works hard in a session and does not look out of place afterwards.

Why it is worth a look

Plenty of gym shoes are great at one thing. Running shoes are cushy but wobble under a squat. Lifting shoes are rock solid but not much fun for a box jump. The Nano has always lived in the middle, and the Edge pushes that balance a little further with better durability and a smoother ride through the forefoot.

For anyone whose week is a mix of weights, classes and the odd sprint finisher, that all-rounder streak is the whole appeal. And if you are already an F45 regular, having a shoe with the studio's name on it is a fun bit of team spirit.
