Sony's RX10 V Superzoom Returns After Nine Years With 4K 120p Video
Sony's one-camera travel kit is back, pairing a 24-600mm Zeiss lens with AI autofocus, 30fps bursts and 4K 120p video.
Sony's RX10 series has always had a simple promise: one camera, one lens, every focal length you are likely to need. The last model arrived in 2017, and many assumed the line was finished. Instead, Sony has brought it back with the RX10 V.
One lens for everything
The heart of the RX10 V is the same kind of lens that made the series popular: a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm F2.4-4.0, a 25x zoom that takes you from wide landscapes to distant wildlife without changing glass. For safaris, sport from the stands or a holiday where you do not want to carry a bag of lenses, it is a compelling idea.

- a grip and button layout borrowed from Sony's Alpha mirrorless cameras, and around 630 shots per charge
The catch
Critics have noted the sensor is closely related to the one from 2017, so image quality is not a dramatic leap. The big gains are in autofocus, speed and video. If you already own an RX10 IV, you may not need to upgrade. If you have been waiting for a modern all-in-one camera, this is it.
Price and availability
The RX10 V costs US$2,299 in the US and has been on sale since August. Check Sony Australia and authorised retailers for local pricing.
