LEGO PlayStation set lands in Australia on 4 October
The first official LEGO PlayStation set recreates the original console and controller in 1,911 pieces, with hidden Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas. It goes on sale in Australia on 4 October.
The original PlayStation is being rebuilt in bricks. LEGO and Sony Interactive Entertainment have revealed the first official LEGO PlayStation set, a near life-size replica of the original console and its controller, and it goes on sale in Australia on 4 October 2026 for $279.99. Announced on 3 September 2026 after a reveal during PlayStation's State of Play broadcast, it arrives as the console brand marks 30 years of play.
What's in the box
The set (number 72306) has 1,911 pieces and is rated 18+, putting it firmly in LEGO's range of display models for adults. Built, it measures about 6cm high, 26cm wide and 19cm deep, close to 1:1 scale with the original console.
LEGO says the model has "functional Open and Power buttons, a plug-in controller and hidden buildable dioramas of iconic games Gran Turismo and Ape Escape." The two dioramas can sit inside the console or be displayed on their own:
- Gran Turismo: a miniature race track with scaled cars, nodding to the 1997 original.
- Ape Escape: an island scene from the 1999 game, with a swappable blue or red light on the monkeys' helmet.
Why it matters for collectors
LEGO describes this as the very first official LEGO PlayStation set. Pairing the hardware with two of the PlayStation's best-known early games gives it broader appeal than a straight console replica, and the plug-in controller is a detail that long-time players will appreciate.
At $279.99, Australian buyers pay noticeably more than the US$179.99 US price once exchange rates are factored in.
More PlayStation hardware on the way
The LEGO set was one of several hardware reveals around the September State of Play. Sony also unveiled two Grand Theft Auto VI Limited-Edition DualSense controllers: a Black Edition inspired by Vice City's nightlife and a White Edition representing the city at daybreak. Both use a colour-shifting finish that blends sunset hues and neon, with moulded palm tree details and official GTA VI branding.
The controllers are priced at US$84.99 and release on 19 November 2026, the same day as the game. Sony lists them for PlayStation Direct in the US and parts of Europe plus select retailers globally; Australian pricing has not been confirmed.
