Samsung One UI 9 starts rolling out to Galaxy S26 phones from late September

Samsung has confirmed One UI 9 is coming to its current flagship phones. In an announcement published by Samsung Australia on 16 September 2026, the company said the update starts rolling out from the end of September, beginning with the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra. It is the first major software update for the S26 range, and it brings a raft of Galaxy AI features that debuted on the new foldables earlier this year.

Foldables first, S26 next

One UI 9 is not entirely new. It launched on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8, and Samsung is now extending it to the S26 series. The company says the update is then expected to gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices, although it has not named which models will follow or when.

There has been some uncertainty around timing. Android Authority reported that Samsung Thailand moved its S26 date from 21 September to 28 September before removing a specific date altogether and saying only that the update would arrive within September. Samsung has not announced a wider delay, so Australian owners should expect the update to appear over the coming weeks rather than on a fixed day.

What's new

Samsung's pitch is that "Enhanced Galaxy AI helps users do, create, and understand more across devices." The headline additions include:

• My FanCam: a camera mode that automatically tracks and centres a chosen person in a video, reframing as the scene changes.
• Generative and editable cards: more control over the daily Now Brief summary, across categories such as health, weather and video.
• Now Nudge: context-aware suggestions, such as calendar events, reservations and locations, surfaced without interrupting a conversation.
• Creative Studio: image generation ideas based on upcoming events.
• Interpreter: a new Thread View for following a translated conversation, plus faster translation and playback.
• Document Scan and Voice Recorder: better handling of curved or folded pages, and structured recording summaries with headings and tables.

Security and support

Several changes focus on keeping phones safe. A Security Brief in Now Brief flags malware and unnecessary app permissions, while Privacy Alerts use on-device AI to spot apps trying to access permissions in the background. Samsung is expanding Scam Detection to Japan, Canada and India; Australia is not on that list.

A new Warranty and Care section in Settings brings device support into one place, letting owners check warranty status, run self-diagnostics, get repair estimates and manage Samsung Care+.
