Most Expensive Houses for Sale in Australia: Seven Homes From $5.8m to Over $200m
A Point Piper landmark, a Toorak mansion with its own grass tennis court and a Canberra home backing onto bushland: seven standout houses, state by state.
House porn alert: Australia's most expensive homes for sale right now run from $5.8 million in Canberra to more than $200 million on Sydney Harbour. Here are seven of the best homes money can buy across Australia.
NSW: Wingadal, Point Piper (expected to exceed $200 million)
Wingadal sits on a 2,676sqm peninsula block with 98 metres of Sydney Harbour frontage, and the price is tipped to be above $200 million. It was designed by architect Alec Tzannes and has four levels, six bedrooms and a separate two-bedroom apartment. The honey-coloured sandstone echoes the natural cliff face, and angled stonework frames the views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

The entertaining is on a grand scale: a function area with an arch framing the Harbour Bridge that holds 250 seated or 500 standing, a 22-seat theatre, a 22-person spa, two commercial kitchens, a 2,500-bottle wine cellar and an eight-car garage.

Victoria: 4 Linlithgow Road, Toorak (price guide $33 million+)
The price guide for 4 Linlithgow Road is $33 million-plus. It is a 1,885sqm Toorak estate with eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a turnstile garage for six cars. It was designed with Christopher Doyle, Davies Henderson and Paul Bangay.

Six of the bedrooms are primary suites, each with an Italian marble ensuite, and the kitchen has Gaggenau appliances. Out the back there is a north-south grass tennis court and a garden pavilion, and below ground there is a private cinema and a gym.

Queensland: 5685 Anchorage Terrace, Sanctuary Cove (price guide $35 million)
The price guide for 5685 Anchorage Terrace is $35 million. The house sits on about 2,820sqm with around 35 metres of bridge-free frontage to the Main River, deep-water mooring and a private pontoon. It has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a self-contained guest residence over three levels, with a private lift and a sweeping central staircase.

Inside there is a piano lounge, a cinema, a library and a kitchen with Gaggenau appliances. Outside, the resort-style pool, pavilion and terraces face a protected natural reserve across the water, and there are 12 car spaces.

South Australia: Yatahlia Manor, Yatala Vale ($12 million)
Yatahlia Manor at 488-500 Yatala Vale Road was listed at $12 million. It is a Provence-inspired estate in Adelaide's north-east, about 17 kilometres from the CBD. Inside there is a grand entrance hall with a spiral staircase, a lift, a home cinema, a gym, a library and a music room.

The grounds are the main event: manicured gardens, a lake with lilies and waterfowl, and a 45 by 12 metre hangar with its own kitchen, which makes it a house for someone with a car collection.

Western Australia: 43 Saunders Street, Mosman Park (expected to exceed $70 million)
The price for 43 Saunders Street is expected to exceed $70 million, which would beat the $57.5 million sale in 2009 that still stands as the state's house price record. The estate covers about 7,565sqm of cliff-top land above the Swan River, with a three-storey main house, a gate house and a guest house, and six bedrooms and seven bathrooms in total.

The foyer has a glass-domed ceiling, a sweeping marble and wrought iron staircase, a glass lift and a koi pond. There is also an indoor pool pavilion, a full-size tennis court, and a boathouse built into the cliff face, with a lift down to a boat ramp and private jetty.

Northern Territory: Jim Beam House, Fannie Bay ($10 million)
Jim Beam House at 94-96 East Point Road is asking $10 million. It stands on 2,010sqm on the corner of East Point Road and Ross Smith Avenue, with five bedrooms (one in a self-contained caretaker's residence) and wide verandahs.

It is built for entertaining: a ballroom with a commercial kitchen and bar, and a rooftop pool with a barbecue pavilion that looks out to the ocean.
ACT: 2 Mugga Way, Red Hill (asking $5.8 million)
The asking price for 2 Mugga Way is $5.8 million. The 1980s house has six bedrooms and six bathrooms on 2,804sqm with about 70 metres of frontage, and it backs onto Red Hill Nature Reserve. The design features cathedral Oregon timber ceilings, slate floors and visible wood panelling.

The sunken chef's kitchen has a teppanyaki grill and a custom bar. The courtyard pool is mineral-heated, and there is also a pool house with a sauna, a 1,000-bottle cellar and a 30kW solar system.
