Spider-Man: Brand New Day Swings Onto Digital This Week

The third highest-grossing film of all time hits digital platforms on 6 October, just over two months after becoming one of the year's biggest box office stories.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is about to become a lot easier to watch. Tom Holland's fourth standalone outing as Peter Parker arrives on digital platforms this week, just over two months after becoming one of the biggest box office stories of the year.

The film picks up after the multiverse-spanning chaos of No Way Home, with Peter having accepted a version of anonymity again after the world forgot he was ever Spider-Man, a reset that let returning director Jon Watts and the writing team build a story less concerned with secret identities and more focused on what Peter actually wants his life, and his powers, to look like next. It's also the first film in the series made without direct ties to the wider Avengers roster, giving Holland's Peter more room to exist as his own character rather than the MCU's designated newcomer.

The Numbers Behind the Record

Spec callout: Nearly $2.5 billion worldwide against a $225 million budget, making it the third highest-grossing film of all time behind only Avengers: Endgame and James Cameron's Avatar, and the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic US box office.

Critically, it's held up too, sitting at 90% with critics and 97% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. One review praised it for emotionally complex storytelling that "brings together numerous characters dealing with grief, loss, and loneliness", a heavier note than the trailers let on.

That combination of box office and critical reception puts Brand New Day in rare company. Very few franchise films manage both a record-setting theatrical run and reviews that improve on the instalment before it, and Sony has already confirmed a fifth Holland-led Spider-Man film is in early development as a direct result, alongside further expansion of its Spider-Man Universe slate of spin-offs.

When and Where to Watch

The film hits digital platforms, including Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu and Google Play Movies, on 6 October. Physical releases on DVD and Blu-ray follow on 27 November for anyone still building out a shelf, with early listings suggesting a steelbook edition and an extended cut featuring roughly 15 minutes of additional footage not shown in cinemas.

The digital release also arrives at a strategically useful moment for Sony, landing just days before New York Comic Con opens its doors, where Marvel and Spider-Man-adjacent panels are already among the most anticipated of the weekend. Expect the film's box office milestones and awards buzz, including early Oscar chatter for its visual effects and score, to feature heavily in convention coverage over the following weeks.

Verdict: If you skipped the cinema run, this is the moment to catch up before it's all anyone's talking about at New York Comic Con.
