Fujifilm's Instax Pal 2 Swaps Cute for a Retro Film Camera Look
Fujifilm's tiny digital Instax camera has been completely redesigned with an optical viewfinder and flipbook animations, alongside a new Link Wide 2 printer.
The original Instax Pal was a curious thing: a gumdrop-shaped camera carrying the name of Fujifilm's instant film brand, but shooting only digitally. Its successor keeps the concept and throws out the design entirely.
A new look
The Instax Pal 2 is now a long, rectangular camera that borrows from the tiny 110 film cameras of decades past. It still fits in your palm and weighs just 41g, and it comes in white or black and silver. The bigger practical change is an optical viewfinder, joined by a 1-inch LCD screen on top of the camera.
What it shoots
- 10.7MP sensor with a 28mm-equivalent F2.2 lens and focus as close as 8cm
- five filter themes, each with six adjustments
- an Animation mode that captures 10 frames for flipbook-style clips
- exposure compensation, self-timer and a built-in flash
- internal storage for around 100 photos, plus microSD support
Printing is optional
The Pal 2 does not take film. Instead, you choose a format, whether Instax Mini, Square, Wide or frameless, and send photos to a compatible Instax printer through the app or directly from the camera. That makes it a nice middle ground: you can shoot freely and only print the keepers.
Instax Link Wide 2
Fujifilm has also updated its wide-format phone printer. The Link Wide 2 prints on Instax Wide film and adds a Photo Mixer collage tool, 1,600 in-app stickers, frames, text and QR codes that can link to locations, messages or audio clips. It comes in Duo Beige and Duo Blue.
